On our return ride back to Thailand, we saw so much more and the traffic was unbelievable. We were on a two lane road with hundreds of scooters and cars. NOONE obeyed the rules, not that there were rules. We had so many near misses. Pastor Chhin told us about an accident that had happened 2 weeks prior where the driver of a large truck fell asleep and ran over a car carrying 6 passengers, killing them all.
I think the most disturbing thing we saw today was when we passed a scooter and there was a young girl on the back. There was a pole with an IV on it that she was hooked to and she looked like she was in pain. It just broke my heart. Pastor Chhin said she probably just came from the hospital.
Also, the differences between Cambodia and Thailand are huge, the roads in Thailand are very good, where the roads in Cambodia are rough. Boone says the road was put in about 6 years ago. The cost of living is very high in Cambodia. The general wage for someone in Cambodia is about $120 a month where the wages in Thailand are about $600. Everything is imported into Cambodia which makes it all cost so much more. On the side of the road were many stands that had bottles with yellow liquid in it. I asked Pastor Chhin what they were and he said it was gas. That's how they sell gas in Cambodia. They don't have gas stations.
